I use the Concordant Literal N.T. mostly, I see it as a good literal translation.

What great insight little words provide. Thanks for your website and continued efforts to inform the Christian of who he is in Christ. That word in or the greek word en denotes a fixed location. I saw that same word en in Romans chapter 8, where Paul tells us that we are not in the flesh but in the Spirit. Thanks Peter

Yes, that is the new creation reality!
We are conditioned to believe what we see with our 5 senses, yet the Word describes things beyond what we see. We tend to judge ourselves by what evidence we see but God tells us to see things as he does--recognizing our true identity and relationship. We are his sons and daughters and we ARE in him. Out of our identity comes our actions--and out of our actions comes fruit. But just as we learn not to use the senses as our indicator for truth, we can be sure that it is the same for measuring fruit. God is the husbandman, and as surely as he works in our hearts to will, he will also DO to produce fruit in us.

I am finding that just a hair of difference in seeing a truth makes all the difference. The article above made me think of the fruit that one sees in their life when they believe they are truly one with Christ - Vine and branch. Before, I used to say to myself, "IF I am in Christ and He in me, then I SHOULD be bearing fruit." I really believed I was doing well to hold on to that truth, but did not see fruit in my life. Then, the Holy Spirit helped me to see I was missing the real truth just by a hair. He has taught me to say, "Since I am in Christ and He in me, I HAVE fruit in my life." Waiting to see evidence was sitting in unbelief, declaring the truth of what is a fact even though I don't see it in the natural is Faith.

This truth about how we were literally relocated is so amazing! And the ramifications are immense. We live in the earthly realm governed by time and space and form and matter. The heavenly, or spiritual realm is not governed by these same restrictions--it is a higher realm we are told, so when we read that we have been "translated" into the kingdom of His dear son, it paints a clear picture of what God has done for us in physical terms. We can relate to a geographical change along with the concepts that it implies like the geographical borders of laws. We can understand that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do." and how the former rules that governed out lives have given way to the freedom that governs our lives in Christ Jesus now. What an amazing change has occurred in our lives when we were born again! No longer are we held by the powers of darkness, by the law with its punishments--we live in a whole different place! A place where we can thrill to the unveiling of our true identity--a "geographical" environment entirely conducive to transformation into the image of Christ!

It is true that bible translators could have altered the meaning of some scriptures due to their theological bias or preconceived notions as the case may be. Whether consciously or unconsciously I wouldn't know. I use the New King James version at the moment but still refer to other translations for better meaning to some seemingly complex texts.
I believe strongly that the Holy Spirit is with us to guide us into all truths, having said that the Bible has a central theme as some people say the bible is "christocentric".
I study the scripture with this truth at the front of my mind. "The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophesy" (Revelations 19:10)

I was struck at the vastness of the word "in" when reading through Colossians. When God delivered us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved son, that literally took us from one place to another. How far is the realm of darkness from being in the realm of Christ!? It is from one corner of the spiritual world to the other—and God placed us there, IN Christ. That's as far as a person can go in this life! It's a long way from a life filled with darkness to a life filled with the fullness of God. Just in that little preposition, "in"!

Good one!
Having another version jogs my mind to reconsider what the verse is really saying without the associated theology I had at the time when I first memorized the verse. ESV reads as smooth as silk, but when it is time to compare meanings—the King Jimmy comes into its own.
